Someone wrote this down
I went back to school at forty — an evening class, twice a week, something I'd wanted for years. There's a small group that sits together, younger, quick, fluent in all of it. When I ask a question, one of them does this exhale. A tiny laugh through the nose. Once, one of them said 'we covered this' loud enough for the room. I know more than I think I do; my last exam proved it. But I've started saving my questions for email, and the class I was so proud of joining has a knot in it now.
What they wish they’d said“I'm here to learn it, not to already know it. I'll keep asking.”
What would help: encouragement
